For most Australians, they only know Kris Terzievski (10-1-1) simply as the next opponent in Paul Gallen’s (12-1-1) boxing career and nothing more.

But that’s perfectly ok by him.

For Melbourne native, who has a shot to make Australian boxing history should he have his hand raised when it’s all said and done, it all leads perfectly into creating his very own “Rocky moment,” even if his fighting style is more akin to a famous opponent.

Terzievski takes on Gallen for both the Australian and Australasian Heavyweight Titles on May 11 at Newcastle Entertainment Centre, with the winner set to become the first dual champ in over 100 years.

Against Gallen, Terzievski will be catapulted into realms of national attention he’s never encountered before. New fans. New conversations. New levels intrigue from sporting fans.

It’s all set up perfectly for the man from the northern suburbs of Melbourne to follow a Hollywood-style script that the world is all too familiar with.

“For me, getting this opportunity has been like a Rocky moment for myself,” Terzievski told

“Coming out of obscurity to be on a big platform like this has been a Rocky moment for me.

“Gal’s got more of a Rocky style and I think my style does resemble a bit more like Apollo Creed.”

Gal, like Rocky, can take a hit.

But as the character made famous by Sylvester Stallone quipped, it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.

However, Terzievski has faced opponents with Gallen’s style previously and knows exactly how to deal with them, even if it involves a training camp with sparring partners “coming to try and take my head off.”

“I don’t think he’s (Gallen) going to come with any surprises,” Terzievski said.

“He’s just going to bring that brute force and aggression.

“I’ve seen that style of fighter before, I’ve dealt with that style before.

“It’s just going to be one with a lot of pressure and that’s what I’ve been more focused on.

“In these training camps, I’ve had a lot of guys coming to try and take my head off.”

Terzievski is adamant that his hand will be raised at the end of the fight, even if Gal represents his most unique test to date.

He isn’t fussed as to how he gets the win.

If Gallen can take what Terzievski will throw his way, it’s a chance for him to put on a clinic and show the Australian public who he is.

If he secures a clean shot on the former Sharks star, “then the fans get to see a great show of that as well.”

Either way, it hasn’t stopped Terzievski from dreaming big about what comes next and he’d have no shortage of paths to take.

One such path could even land him a date with an opponent Gallen has longed for in what would be a boxing blockbuster.

“A victory over Gal opens up a lot of options,” Terzievski said.

“A Sonny Bill fight would be crazy. It wouldn’t just draw eyeballs in Australia, it would be some worldwide attention.

“That’s definitely something, if it was presented, that I’d take with both hands.

“If I do a date with Justis (Huni), you could build that up to be two of the best pure heavyweight boxers the country has ever seen.

“Joe Goodall and I had two very close fights in the amateurs that I just came second to. I’d be looking to get those back as well.”
