Portage County-area amateur golf news and notes

Raccoon Hill Golf Club reported the first ace of the season.

Bruce Kandus, competing with the Streetsboro Eagles league, sent his ball flying to the green on the 170-yard, 15th hole for the score of one.

It was not only the first reported ace of the season, but it was also Kandus’ first personal hole-in-one.

Joe Haase Cup held at Firestone Country Club

The annual Joe Haase Cup at Firestone Country Club brought together junior tours to compete for bragging rights.

The Northern Ohio PGA, Central Ohio Junior Golf Academy, North Coast Junior Tour and the Toledo Junior Golf Association teed off for Stableford scored an 18-hole event.

The NOPGA walked away with the win scoring 418. Runner-up was the COJGA with a final tally of 402.

In the boys’ 17-19 age group, former Matt Mishler Junior Portage County Amateur champion, Dylan Dunn of Stow, took the top spot for the NOPGA. Dunn scored 36-36-72.

Chris Pollak of Aurora topped the boys 16 and under group with Liam Curtis of Kent making the top five to push the NOPGA to victory. Pollak fired at 33-35-68.

Brooklyn Millard of Aurora used an eagle on the 12th hole to grab fifth place for the NOPGA, followed by Madolyn Kost of Kent in a tie for sixth place in the girls 19 and under.
