PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Area golf teams compete in Lakeview Invite | News, Sports, Jobs

COTTONWOOD — Multiple area boys and girls golf teams competed in the Lakeview Invite on Tuesday at Cottonwood Country Club. On the boys side, Lakeview took first with a team score of 168, followed by Minneota in second (183), Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in third (190), Yellow Medicine East in fourth (201) and Canby in fifth (203) . Tracy-Milroy-Balaton recorded an incomplete team score. On the girls side, RTR took first with a team score of 241 while Minneota and Canby recorded incomplete team scores.



For Lakeview, Cole Arends and Carson Boe tied for a second with scores of 40 while Ethan Schwankl tied for a fifth with a 43, Lane Arends took 10th with a 45, Parker Geistfeld tied for 16th with a 52 and Trey Helmke took 22nd with a 56. Travis Vold shot 52 while Brock Bossuyt had an extra 55 aces.


For Minneota, Cole Myhre took fourth with a 42 while Jackson Esping tied for fifth with a 43, Alex Depestel tied for 11th with a 46, Max Rost tied for 16th with a 52, Anthony Rybinski took 25th with a 58 and Lucas Rybinski took 28th with a 60.


For RTR, Chase Christensen shot a 39 to earn medalist honors while Garret Brandt tied for eighth with a 44, Camden Hansen tied for 14th with a 50 and Isaac Norgaard tied for 23rd with a 57.


For YME, Nick Moritz tied for 11th with a 46, Cooper McCosh took 13th with a 48, James Peterson tied for 14th with a 50, Parker Levitz tied for 23rd with a 57 and Brayton Hammer tied for 26th with a 59.


For Canby, Tristen Ufkin tied for eighth with a 44 while Jack Abrahamson tied for 16th with a 52, Lane Fink took 19th with a 53, Presley Viessman took 20th with a 54, Lincoln Fink took 21st with a 55 and Isaac Bollerud tied for 26th with a 59.


For TMB, Alex Munson tied for fifth with a 43 while Owen Elsen took 29th with a 64 and Connor Towne took 30th with a 74.



For RTR, Shae O’Leary took second with a 49 while Shelby Korman took fifth with a 62, Teigyn O’Leary took sixth with a 64 and Zoey Williams took seventh with a 66.


For Minneota, Lauren Bowyer took first with a score of 41.


For Canby, Kara Rangaard took third with a 55 while Paige Viessman took fourth with a 59 and Lilli Opdahl took eighth with a 68.

All of the teams will compete next on Friday at 4:30 pm in Tyler.


RTR 3, Minnesota 2

MINNEOTA — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton baseball team defeated Minneota 3-2 on Tuesday.

Trailing 2-1, RTR scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 3-2 lead before holding on despite not recording a hit on the game. Cody Wichmann earned the start on the mound, going 4 2/3 innings while allowing two runs on four hits and struck out eight. Jackson Christianson earned the win in relief, tossing 2 1/3 innings while allowing no runs on two hits and struck out two.

Jonah Gruenes led Minneota with two hits and two RBIs while Tyler Gronke added two hits. Ryan Dalager earned the start, going six innings while allowing one run on no hits and struck out 16. Peyton Gillund took the loss in relief, going an inning while allowing two runs and struck out two.

RTR (2-2) will face Canby on the road on Thursday at 4:30 pm while Minneota (0-2) will face Lakeview on the road on Thursday at 4:30 pm
