Sir Rod Stewart went to great lengths to help his 11-year-old son Aiden’s U12’s football team after they lost their training ground during the coronavirus pandemic.

The rocker, 77, turned the five-a-side pitch at his lavish pile in Epping Forest, Essex into the Junior Hoops’ official training ground so they could carry on playing.

A friend of the musician told The Sun: ‘Rod is a regular fixture at his son’s matches. He is hugely passionate about his under-12s team, and not just because they wear the same colors as his beloved Celtic.

‘Sadly, they lost their usual ground because of the pandemic and have had nowhere to train, so Rod stepped in. He has opened his house from him to the entire team, along with the coaches and parents, to allow them to train.

‘Rod doesn’t want his son or the other kids to suffer, so he’s turned his place into their official training ground.

‘Now, twice a week, the team turn up to play and train for their matches. It means the world to Rod that he is able to do that for his son and their team.’

MailOnline has contacted a representative for Sir Rod for comment.

Rod shares Aiden and son Alastair, 16, with wife Penny Lancaster.

It comes after Sir Rod showed that he’s in fighting fit shape following his knee replacement and ankle surgery, as he ran back and fourth during a bleep test.

The 77-year-old posted a video to Instagram on Monday as he ran laps across a football pitch – revealing to fans that he is at ‘top fitness’.

The rocker went under the knife in 2020, after sustaining injury’s from playing football – opting for an ankle surgery which reportedly cost £8,000.

And despite vowing his ‘football days are over’ back in 2021, the singer seemed to be at full capacity as he put on an age defying display.

He donned a black tracksuit, running in between two cones as a black stereo let out beeps – a well known multi-stage fitness test.

Rod explained that he was ready for his long awaited tour dates, which will see him travel around North America this summer – before hitting the UK in November.

In the caption, the Da Ya Think I’m Sexy? singer said ‘full speed ahead’ before teasing a visit to his Scottish homeland.

He wrote: ‘After a knee replacement and angle fusion surgery, at 77 I’m back to top fitness in preparation for my long awaited tour dates – and maybe a call up Scotland!!!
