Women’s Golf Releases 2022-23 Schedule

HOUSTON – Four fall tournaments and five regular-season events in the spring highlight the University of Houston Women’s Golf schedule, Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Gumm announced Tuesday.

The Cougars will compete in Mexico as well as four states (Texas, Oklahoma, California and Arizona) during the regular season.

Entering her second season as head coach, Gumm returns four letterwinners from last year’s team, including All-American Athletic Conference performers Annie Kim and nicole abel.

A super-senior in 2022-23, Kim led the Cougars with a 74.03 scoring average and 11 rounds of par or better in 2021-22, including a season-low 67 in the Second Round of the MountainView Collegiate on March 19.

Competing in her first season with the Cougars as a transfer from Coastal Carolina, Abelar led the Cougars at the American Athletic Conference Championships with a score of 222 and earned All-Conference honors for the second straight season in her second different league.

FALL SEASON

Houston opens the season when it tees off at the Mo’Morial Invitational at Traditions Club in College Station, Texas, on Sept. 20-21.

From there, the team will compete at the Schooner Fall Classic (Belmar Golf Club, Norman, Okla.) on Sept. 24-26.

After playing at the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas (Oct. 23-24), the Cougars close the fall slate when they compete at the Cabo Collegiate Invitational at Club Campestre San Jose in San Jose del Cabo, BCS, Mexico on Oct. 28-30.

2022-23 Women's Golf Spring Schedule

SPRING SEASON

Following the winter break, the Cougars open their spring season at the Lamkin Invitational at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., on Feb. 13-14.

From there, the Cougars return home to play host to the ICON Invitational at Golf Club of Houston on Feb. 27-28. Houston will welcome an elite field to the two-day, 54-hole event, including Charlotte, Illinois, Iowa State, Maryland, NC State, North Texas, Oklahoma State, SMU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, Tulsa , UTSA and defending champion USC.

Houston opens the month of March at the Trinity Forest Invitational at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas on March 6-7. After competing at the MountainView Collegiate at MountainView Country Club in Saddlebrooke, Ariz., on March 17-19, the Cougars close the regular season on April 1-2 at The Bruzzy at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Okla.

AFTER SEASON

The Cougars begin the postseason when they compete at the American Athletic Conference Championships at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla. It will be the first time the league’s annual postseason event will be played at that venue.

The winner of The American Championships receives the league’s automatic bid to NCAA Regional play.

A year ago, the Cougars finished second at The American Championships as Kim, Abelar and Mary Joseph Martinez finished among the tournament’s Top-15 leaders. All three earned All-Conference honors.

In 2023, NCAA Regionals will be held at six sites across the country: University of Georgia Golf Course (Athens, Ga.); PGA National Resort (Palm Beach Gardens Fla.); Palouse Ridge Golf Club (Pullman, Wash.); Lonnie Poole Golf Course (Raleigh, NC); TPC San Antonio (San Antonio, Texas) and The Club at Chatham Hills (Westfield, Ind.)

The top teams from each NCAA Regional advance to play at the NCAA Championships, set for May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
